{"id":25620,"date":"2022-08-12T20:16:03","date_gmt":"2022-08-12T20:16:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.intentwise.com\/blog\/?p=25620"},"modified":"2024-02-06T06:07:49","modified_gmt":"2024-02-06T14:07:49","slug":"a-key-learning-from-amazon-marketing-stream-dont-run-out-of-budgets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.intentwise.com\/blog\/data-analytics\/a-key-learning-from-amazon-marketing-stream-dont-run-out-of-budgets\/","title":{"rendered":"A Key Learning from Amazon Marketing Stream: Don&#8217;t Run Out of Budgets","gt_translate_keys":[{"key":"rendered","format":"text"}]},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It\u2019s only been a little less than two months since Amazon <a href=\"https:\/\/advertising.amazon.com\/en-us\/resources\/whats-new\/introducing-amazon-marketing-stream-beta\">announced Amazon Marketing Stream (Beta) (AMS)<\/a>, and while there are many complex insights to be gleaned from this data, there is a simple takeaway this information reveals: campaigns might be running out of budgets before the day is over, lowering competition for advertisers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, many of us in search advertising already know to avoid running out of budgets, but AMS\u2019s hourly data reinforces the importance of this rule. As I noted in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intentwise.com\/blog\/intentwise\/intentwise-integrates-with-amazon-marketing-stream\/\">June blog post<\/a>, one key implication of AMS is the ability to see hourly average cost-per-click (CPC) and conversion rate data for Sponsored Products campaigns. While evaluating this new AMS data in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intentwise.com\/ad-optimizer\/amazon-advertising\">Intentwise Ad Optimizer<\/a>, a consistent pattern our team observed was that average CPCs drop later in the day, which could be caused by campaigns running out of budget and therefore decreasing competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s a pattern we see in quite a few accounts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"312\" src=\"https:\/\/www.intentwise.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/averageCPC-1024x312.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25621\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.intentwise.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/averageCPC-1024x312.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.intentwise.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/averageCPC-300x91.png 300w, https:\/\/www.intentwise.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/averageCPC-768x234.png 768w, https:\/\/www.intentwise.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/averageCPC-1536x468.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.intentwise.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/averageCPC-560x171.png 560w, https:\/\/www.intentwise.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/averageCPC.png 1753w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If your campaigns are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intentwise.com\/blog\/ad-optimization\/out-of-budget-issues\/\">running out of budgets<\/a>, you are making it easy for your competitors. We recommend one of two options to address this issue:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Raise your budget:<\/strong> If your business can afford to, increase your spend to carry you through the entire day.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lower your bids:<\/strong> Decreasing your bids will decrease your average CPC, which will typically increase your efficiency.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news is that AMS also publishes hourly budget consumption data by campaign. Finding campaigns running out of budgets and taking action is now easier than ever.
